The second production year of the brand’s new mid-size crossover is about to bring interesting novelties. Those are the latest reports that come from General Motors. For the next year, we are about to see a big novelty under the hood, in the form of a new base engine, which will certainly make this model more affordable. Other than that, we will see smaller tweaks only, such as new wheels for the range-topping model. Also, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be standard across the whole range.
The rest of the vehicle is about to remain the same. Therefore, you may count on a crossover that has several good things to offer, starting from a spacious cabin and a decent cargo area. Furthermore, sound insulation is good, as well as the overall ride quality. On the other side, the biggest complaints go to the lack of athleticism and not so upscale interior quality.
2021 Cadillac XT6 Gets New Engine
Without any doubt, this is the biggest novelty for the second production year. So far, this model was available with a V6 engine only and that was the main reason for its pretty high starting price. Thanks to the new turbo-four engine, the base price will be far more competitive than before. Of course, we are talking about a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 237 horsepower. Naturally, this version won’t be as peppy as the one with the V6 engine but on the other side, we count on solid mpg ratings.
The V6 engine will be reserved for higher trim levels. Things won’t change in this aspect, so you may count on a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower. It comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and provides pretty strong driving dynamics. When it comes to fuel economy, this engine offers typical numbers for the class, around 18 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway.
2021 Cadillac XT6 Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, things definitely won’t change. The overall design will remain the same and practically the only major change is the addition of new wheels for the range-topping Sport trim. The rest of the vehicle will remain the same, so you may count on a familiar styling, which follows the brand’s latest design language. It is characterized by a massive shield grille and a lot of sharp lines.
In terms of the mechanics, this model rides on a familiar C1 platform. It has most things in common with models like GMC Acadia and Chevy Blazer. This includes the wheelbase as well, which goes around 112.7 inches. Of course, we are talking about the FWD layout, though AWD models are available too.
Interior changes won’t come either. Therefore, you may count on a familiar cabin layout, which combines good quality, attractive aesthetics and a high level of comfort. The dashboard looks attractive and features quality materials. It definitely has that premium feel though we have to say that most rivals feel better and more opulent. So, if hi-interior is on your priority list, you should check models like Lincoln Aviator, Audi Q7, BMW X5 etc.
On the other side, there is really nothing to complain about in terms of passenger space and overall comfort. The first two rows are pretty generous in space, while the third row is typically tight for the class. The front seats are massive and supportive.
When it comes to the cargo area, things are both good and bad. On one side, you may count on pretty respectable 78.7 cubic feet of the overall cargo space. On the other, things aren’t that great with all seats in use, when you may coun on just 12.6 cubic feet.
As we’ve just mentioned, the biggest change is the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone goodies to the list of standard equipment. Other than that, things will remain pretty much the same. Therefore, all models should come standard with goodies like a sunroof, wireless device charging, and an infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, six USB ports. In higher trim levels, you can also get goodies like navigation, rear-seat entertainment system, a 14-speaker Bose audio system etc.
When it comes to safety features, all models will come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert. Safety features like a rearview camera mirror, adaptive cruise control, automatic park assist, rear pedestrian braking, a surround-view parking camera system, pedestrian and animal detection etc.
2021 Cadillac XT6 Release Date and Price
The 2021 Cadillac XT6 should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. As we already mentioned, the new turbo-four engine will make the price more affordable, so base models should go around 49.000 dollars.
