The new 2021 Chevy Traverse is not suffering any big changes. Well, the spy photos are unveiling testing mules, but not too many modifications. Covers are hiding front and rear fascia, suggesting there will be updates. Still, the major change could happen under the hood. We hope this could be the hybrid engine. Well, the company needs to catch up with competitors. Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer are class-leaders, while the Honda Pilot could get a plug-in system.

Sales of the Traverse are jumping ever since it stepped up on the market in 2008. The SUV reached 150,000 sold units. The next step is to achieve 200k, but it won’t be possible without the hybrid drivetrain. Traverse offers seven or eight seats and over 98 cubic feet of cargo space. A V6 engine delivers 310 hp, but the fuel economy is not at the highest level. Properly equipped, the SUV has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. The new details about the 2021 Chevy Traverse will be available in the second quarter of 2020.

2021 Chevy Traverse Spy Photos and Changes For New Season

The latest generation of the Traverse mid-size SUV is still fresh, so there is no need for bigger upgrades. Still, we saw a test mule wearing the heavy camo, which means something important is happening. For the 2020 YM, designers had no too much job. The SUV brought a new infotainment system with some extra features. Also, a new drivetrain joined the lineup.

Our sources suggesting that the new Blazer will inspire changes on the 2021 Chevy Traverse. If this happens, the SUV is going to be more aggressive and attractive to younger buyers. The camo can’t hide lights and we can witness the fresh design of headlights with DRL lamps. Also, fog lights take a new position, but these are going to be available only at higher trim levels.

Interior

The new 2021 Chevy Traverse will be revisited, but no radical changes are coming this time. That means the same platform underpins the SUV and the body length remains the same. The new shape of the rear end could provide extra room. However, do not expect a huge leap from a current level. Traverse is a three-row model and it offers 23 cubic feet of cargo space behind rear seats. With the third row folded, the capacity increases to 58 cu.ft, and up to 98 cubic feet with all seats down.

Some of the standard equipment buyers are getting with the base L model are traction mode, HD camera, Electronic Stability Control, LATCH system, while the liftgate is manual. LS trim adds a dark rear window, larger wheels, and HID headlamps. Leather upholstery is coming with the LT package, but as optional material. Also, the suite adds the blind-spot warning, rear park assist, and an 8-inch touchscreen display. Standard seating capacity for the 2021 Chevy Traverse is seven, but the LT Leather model offers the eight spot. RS model is now available only with a V6 engine, while the turbo-four is discontinued. Top of the class trims are Premier and High Country.

V6 Is the Only Engine

Under the bonnet of the 2021 Chevy Traverse is a 3.6-liter V6 engine. The company discontinued a 2.0-l turbo-four drivetrain for the RS model. Now, the entire lineup relies on a larger and durable powerplant. It is ready to provide 310 hp and 266 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic gearbox is forwarding power to hfront wheels. An all-wheel drive is optional and costs around $2,000. The start/stop feature is available at all trims.

The change we all expect is a hybrid engine. However, Chevrolet is not providing any details, and we can’t find a reliable source to confirm what is going on. Definitely, the GM needs to update its powerplant lineup to stay competitive in the mid-size SUV segment.
