2021 Jeep COmpass redesign

FCA updated trim levels in the compact crossover lineup last year. Now, it is time for more serious changes on the 2021 Jeep Compass. This is one of the best-selling vehicles in the family, with nearly 150,000 purchases last year. However, features reshuffling was not enough for some fans, and sales dropped by nearly 15 percent. Now, after the update, the new Compass will be more attractive. Still, there is a way to go to catch up with leaders in the compact segment.

The biggest downside of the Compass is the lack of a hybrid unit. Its 2.4-liter unit is far away from the efficiency you can get from Toyota Rav4 and Ford Escape. We are somehow surprised by the deficiency of choices for the engine room. In all other segments, Jeep offers plenty of options. The only thing buyers will be able to pick is an all-wheel drive. Still, the off-road capability is one of the reasons of excellent sales. Plus, the MSRP of the vehicle is attractive, and we believe the 2021 Jeep Compass is not going to change it.

What’s New For the 2021 Jeep Compass?

The crossover will be redesigned for the first time since the company launched the new generation in 2015. In the compact class, this is too much time. Some companies are bringing new series during such periods. However, the FCA was focused on other segments, such as trucks and mid-size SUVs. Well, sales are confirming chiefs weren’t wrong. The Ram 1500 is now the second best-selling pickup behind the undisputed champion of sales in the US, Ford F-150, while the Grand Cherokee is the #1 in mid-size charts. The redesign should make the Compass attractive, but the most important upgrade must happen in the engine room, that is for sure.

Interior

This small SUV is pretty comfortable and spacious. Its cargo volume of 60 cubic feet is among the best in the class. Still, the room for passengers is not affected, since there is enough space for five adult persons. Of course, if you are looking for more comfort, you need to pay more and take the larger Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango.

The 2021 Jeep Compass will continue to offer plenty of features, right from the base model. Another advantage of this mini SUV is a trim level choice. Sport, Latitude, Limited, Trailhawk, and Upland will serve a lot of equipment. There are no doubts that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will remain the base offer. The carmaker might upgrade the infotainment system with a larger screen for lower trims and more speakers. Fog lights, LED lamps, larger wheels, and power-adjustable seats will remain optional.

2021 Jeep Compass Specs

We got used to a wide choice of engines on every FCA’s vehicle. Well, that is not the case with the Compass. It currently offers only a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit. It creates 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, which is the class-average. On the other hand, the fuel economy is not something the crossover is proud of. With only 22 mpg for city drive, it is one of the lowest outputs in the class. Ford Escape doubles these figures, for example. We will see if the 2021 Jeep Compass is going to keep a manual gearbox. A nine-speed auto is also there. Trailhawk model is using an advanced 4WD system, while this feature is optional for other trim levels.

2021 Jeep Compass Hybrid

The hybrid engine should be a priority for the company. Compass is the best-selling compact crossover that doesn’t offer such a drivetrain. However, we don’t know what would be the difference if the 2021 Jeep Compass Hybrid steps on the market, with other models already established themselves as leaders. Toyota Rav4 Hybrid was the first model to offer more than 40 mpg, and Honda brought CR-V for this season. In 2021, Ford Escape is going to beat them both with 44 mpg. Still, its place is not guaranteed, since Nissan is testing new Rogue. If Jeep wants to stay competitive, it is clear that the Compass must offer a hybrid unit.

Trailhawk Edition

The 2021 Jeep Compass Traihawk is one of the most capable small SUV for off-roading. The carmaker equips this version with a special 4WD control. The package upgrades the offer with special suspension, skid plates, and all-terrain tires. Also, there is unique upholstery for cabin and a large 8.4-inch infotainment screen as a part of the Uconnect system. You can still upgrade the Trailhawk version with navigation, moonroof, or leather seats.

2021 Jeep Compass Prices

The base price of the 2021 Jeep Compass won’t be too higher than the current cost. That means the crossover remains one of the most affordable in the class. The MSRP is about to start around $24,000 without destination. A four-wheel drive will cost you $1,500. Trailhawk, as one of the most popular units, is more than $10k above the base trim level.
