2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk

After the last-year facelift, here is another round of updates. This time, we are about to see a completely new powertrain option, as the popular subcompact crossover is about to come in a PHEV version. This will be the latest novelty on a model that has been around for several years and which certainly needs constant updates in order to remain competitive. The 2021 Jeep Renegade is about to get a completely new powertrain option but other than that, we don’t expect to see any particular changes.

That means you may count on a familiar design, which has been updated last year but which has remained practically unchanged for several years. Therefore, count on a comfortable ride, impressive off-road performances and pretty intuitive infotainment system. Despite the new PHEV version, we don’t expect to see the new version much earlier than usual. Therefore, expect to see it sometime in the last quarter of the year.

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Jeep Renegade won’t change. Even the new plug-in hybrid model shouldn’t feature too many exclusive details. This means you may count on a familiar look, which has been updated last year. For that occasion, we saw things like new LED headlights, bigger grille, new bumpers etc. That’s why we are pretty sure that the best 2021 Jeep Renegade could bring are new color options.

The same thing goes for interior design. The 2021 Jeep Renegade will carry on with a familiar cabin layout. The current model comes with a quite good-looking cabin, which looks attractive and utilizes mostly hi-quality materials. There are a couple of areas that feature hard plastics but the cabin looks really good in general. Besides attractive aesthetics, it is also quite practical and functional. You may count on two quite spacious rows of seats. The cargo area also features pretty typical numbers for the class. You may count on about 18.5 cubic feet behind the second row and around 50 cubic feet of the overall cargo space.

Features

Of course, yearly updates also bring a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment. So, 2021 Jeep Renegade shouldn’t be an exception. Still, we don’t expect too much from this crossover and the list should remain pretty much the same as for the current model year. This means that base models will come with goodies like 5-inch touchscreen, voice control, Bluetooth, a USB port, and six speakers. Additionally, you can get goodies like 7- or 8.4-inch touchscreens, as well as on things like a nine-speaker premium audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, HD Radio and many more.

On the other side, we do expect some additions in terms of safety features, considering that base models currently come with a rearview camera only. The list of potential additions includes things like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning etc.

2021 Jeep Renegade Engines

When it comes to the engine lineup, the two familiar gasoline units will carry on in the same way. Base models will continue with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out around 180 horsepower. The optional 1.3-liter turbo-four is good for 177 horsepower but offers slightly better dynamics, due to more torque. Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to fuel economy, the optional turbo-four is a slightly better choice. It returns around 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. On the other side, the standard engine is good for about 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

As we already mentioned, the biggest novelty for the 2021 Jeep Renegade will be a new, plug-in hybrid version. The new powertrain has been presented last year and we already know most of the details about it. First of all, we know it will be base on a 1.3-liter turbo-four, which will be coupled with a 135-hp electric motor. The total output will go around 240 horsepower, which is the amount of power that guarantees quite respectable performances. On the other side, we don’t know the exact capacity of the battery, though the company claims a max range of 31 miles in the all-electric mode, with the max speed of 81 mpg. Also, we should mention that the fuel tank has been slightly squeezed in order to provide more space for the battery.

Release Date and Price

Despite the new PHEV version, the 2021 Jeep Renegade probably won’t come much earlier than usual. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 22.000 dollars. Details about the new PHEV model are yet to come. Key competitors should be models like Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V etc.
