Next season FCA is preparing a big debut. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid is the premiere that will draw a lot of attention in the US. Well, this is not the only vehicle that comes with such technology in the near future. Renegade and Compass PHEV crossovers will be available in Europe already next year. Both will go to the US in the foreseeable future. Whatsoever, Wrangler 4×4 is definitely the star of the lineup and we cannot wait to see the full specs sheet of the new arrival.
The company confirmed the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid. Chiefs are also saying the development is going according to plans. We can see it as well since the first spy photos leaked more than six months ago. Every new image is showing more and more, and the latest spy shots are showing the SUV which could be in production very soon. Other details are still unofficial, including price and the gas mileage.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid Specs
The engine room of the standard Wrangler SUV holds either four- or six-cylinder engine. Both of them are possibly the main source of power for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid. Well, the company is still not unveiling their plans. Experts believe the new Wrangler will borrow and improve the PHEV system from the Chrysler Pacifica MPV.
The new minivan combines a 3.6-liter V6 engine with a double battery pack to produce 260 hp. That is less than the standard petrol drivetrain can make (287 hp). On the other hand, for the MPV, this hybrid setup boosts the gas mileage to 33 mpg combined. Wrangler that uses the same drivetrain consumes more fuel. However, numerous improvements will make it fuel-friendlier. Of course, the system will be able to run by using electric power only. In this case, the range is going to be around 35 mileage.
Some experts don’t believe a V6 will be a pair to electric motors. Instead, the company could retune a 2.0-liter turbo engine and create the PHEV of it. Well, this would be an ambitious move by the FCA, since they already have the plug-in hybrid system that could fit into the SUV. On the other hand, these are only speculations, and the company will pick the most suitable solution not to make the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid too expensive.
Spy Photos
The new 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid is already on roads. The last version we saw is definitely confirming that announcements were not fake. Well, we should never have doubts about such things, since competition is tough and every disappointment is harming the company’s reputation. The FCA is not making official statements to fake the public. So, the SUV was spotted in 2018 for the first time. However, heavy camouflage was hiding too much of the vehicle. How, we can see almost stripped vehicle with covers only on the front area, where the charger is going to be plugged. This is a clear sign that a new version is on the way.
Besides that, we can see the vehicle that is nearly the same as the one debuted in 2018. Last year Jeep launched the new generation of the Wrangler SUV. The new design is now underpinning the PHEV version. We believe the interior will be pretty similar. Batteries will lay under the vehicle and that will harm a bit of interior space.
Renegade and Compass
Besides the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid, the FCA is also developing other electric models. Definitely, the most interesting vehicle is a pickup truck. Ram 1500 has a hybrid technology, although it doesn’t gain too many miles out of it. Whatsoever, this mild-hybrid system will be improved soon. But, the company already announced two more vehicles for the next season. These are compact and subcompact crossovers, Compass and Renegade. US buyers will get them by 2022, with five or six additional electrified models by Jeep. The plan is already available, but the company is not unveiling exactly which models are getting hybrid and PHEV technology. So far, Wrangler, Renegade, and Compass are confirmed, and Ram 1500 truck is a favorite to go the same way.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid Release Date
The new 2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid could debut in Detroit next year. The largest automotive show is moving to summer and that will be the perfect occasion to show off the new arrivals. Now, companies will have a chance to put the performance on display. As one of the major arrivals for the next season, Wrangler PHEV must be there. Otherwise, some other big show will host its premiere.
The price of the new SUV is also a mystery. However, it depends on the strength of the electric motor. The base version of the Wrangler costs $32,000. A four-cylinder engine is even more expensive with all the features it offers (turbocharger, eTorque system, etc.). The hybrid will add around $4,000 to the price, according to early reports.
