2020 Nissan X-Trail

The 2020 Nissan X-Trail is one of the biggest wishes of US fans. However, it looks like this vehicle is not coming to the new market again. Still, it is one of the most popular off-road SUVs across the see, wherever it appears. The new model will need a lot of updates if the Japanese company wants to remain competitive on the market. Practicability is the strong side, but definitely X-Trail needs to change the appearance. Also, more features and options inside the cockpit will be a bonus.

We can hear some hints that the new 2020 Nissan X-Trail could leave its boxy look for the complete modernization. According to reports, the SUV will look like the Qashqai on steroids. Well, these two are already sitting on the same platform, but the X-Trails is significantly bigger, with more space inside the cabin. This room is used for the third row of seats. With its off-road capabilities and enough space for big family, there are no doubts why X-Trail is so popular.

2020 Nissan X-Trail Redesign

Recently Nissan facelifted the SUV. However, this is not enough. To stay competitive, the 2020 Nissan X-Trail will need more changes which can be obtained only by a large redesign. Still, the upcoming model will keep the most significant modifications for the current edition. That includes famous V-motion grille and headlights. Of course, upper trims will offer more features. For example, LED lamps are going to be optional on the both ends of the SUV.

Whatsoever, the biggest change will be the new look. X-Trail is not going to be the boxy SUV with bold appearance. The company will modernize the styling to make it more practical and aerodynamic. The new aesthetic model should be eye-catching and more aggressive than before. It is possible that designers could shred some ground clearance to make it sportier. The cost is worse performance off the road.

Interior

Even if the SUV comes again with its famous boxy look, the 2020 Nissan X-Trail interior can’t be carried over from its predecessors. It is the weakest point on the model. If Nissan wants to keep the pace with competition, they must include some cool features that will draw attention of younger buyers. The most recent update was a thicker steering wheel. Also, the X-Trail uses more upper-scale materials for the latest edition. Expect some posh details for the 2020 year model.

The most impressive interior feature is the ProPilot autonomous drive. This technology is still growing, and currently it can steer, brake and accelerate. In future, it will replace many other functions, like lane changing, overtaking, and self-parking. Nissan chiefs recently said the Level 4 is the target, since there is a small difference between it and Level 3. On the other hand, the gap between Level 2 and 3 is so big. Whatsoever, this is still a chat without any clear details about the next-gen ProPilot system. Still, the Japanese company is one of the leaders in the segment, and the new X-Trail is definitely getting the latest technology whenever it appears.

Engines and Specs

Main engines for the 2020 Nissan X-Trail are 1.6-liter displacements that use diesel or petrol fuel. The first one is capable to produce 130 horsepower and the gasoline version adds 30 ponies more. The SUV will also bring larger 2.0-liter engines. In diesel models it produces 180 hp. On the other hand, a 2.0-liter petrol unit is paired with an electric motor, creating an X-Trail Hybrid with capability to burst 145 hp. Top of the range petrol engine is a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated mill with 170 ponies. Also, the new X-Trail will share the all-new engine with Qashqai. It is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder powertrain. Turbocharged, it delivers 160 horsepower. Sadly, the drivetrain will be available only in Europe, for now.

The CVT transmission is standard, although Nissan gave some hints that this gearbox could be discontinued. It still works smoothly. However, extra mileage is always welcome. Buyers can choose between two and four-wheel drive. In the first case, the power travels from engine to front wheels. The SUV is also going to offer upper trim levels that are equipped with some off-road features, which will improve the performance in tough conditions.
