Recent spy photos of Encore and announces about the new LaCrosse sedan are warming up rumors about the new 2020 Buick Enclave. Well, the mid-size SUV had a facelift in 2018. So, we don’t expect big cosmetic changes. On the other hand, the major upgrade is happening under the hood. The vehicle is currently using only one drivetrain. In the future, Enclave is about to get a turbo-four unit or hybrid configuration.
The 2020 Buick Enclave will be a more luxurious version of Chevy Traverse. Still, it keeps the price below the similar models from the upscale class. However, if you decide to build up your ride, the price jumps pretty easily. The engine is reliable, but the fuel economy has ups and downs. That is the main reason why we could see a new drivetrain. The design is attractive, the interior is spacious and equipped with modern technology. Well, Buick could add more safety features for the base model. Besides that, Enclave doesn’t need too many improvements.
New Engine for the 2020 Buick Enclave
The 2020 Buick Enclave mid-size SUV will use a 3.6-liter drivetrain. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The total output of this system is 310 hp and the SUV returns 21 mpg combined. Since the company is not making changes on the body and architecture, we expect the same price and fuel economy. The engine also creates 270 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard. Sadly, the AWD system is not full-time, but only part-time. The base model will offer a towing capacity of just 1,500 pounds. Well, you can easily boost the hauling of the Enclave to 5,000 lbs through a trailer-towing package.
It is obvious why 2020 Enclave needs a new engine. Some of its main rivals are offering better fuel economy. A turbo-four could be a solution. Well, Buick is already using it for Envision SUV. Its power output is 255 hp. But, this engine is consuming the same amount of fuel on the open road as the existing V6. Enclave can get a boost for the urban ride. However, we are not sure in this since the mid-size model is heavier than its sibling.
Hybrid
General Motors is losing the pace with the competition in electrification. When Chevy Bolt appeared for the first time, we thought that the company will continue to produce more electric vehicles. Not only that Bolt is the only EV by Chevrolet, but the carmaker also lacks hybrid units. The situation needs to change as soon as possible. Japanese carmakers are already delivering such engines and models, and Ford is ready to invest $15 billion in electrification.
The 2020 Buick Enclave hybrid is not confirmed. But, the situation in the mid-size segment is clear – there are already Acura and Lexus with their hybrids. General Motors must respond to expand its offer. Enclave, with only one drivetrain, can’t beat the competition.
2020 Buick Enclave Interior, Features
There will be four trim levels for the upcoming new Enclave. The standard model is Preferred, while Essence adds features and $2,000 of the price difference. The Premium version comes with serious upgrades. The 2020 Buick Enclave Avenir is the model with most options.
Standard options for the mid-size SUV include start/stop system that boosts fuel economy. Well, serious upgrades are required here, since the system can’t provide a huge boost. Push the start button and keyless entry are standard. Liftgate with hands-free access in noteworthy feature every owner will love. Premium SUV offers a spacious and comfortable cabin with seven seating spots. Tri-zone climate is available even for the entry-level model, as well as USB ports, and WiFi hotspot. Of course, there are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Optional Features and Enclave Avenir Model
Dual-clutch AWD is one of the most notable upgrades we will find on Premium and Avenir trim levels. Also, buyers can get navigation as the optional equipment for all versions. Leather seats are standard right from the Essence model, as well as the lane departure warning and lane changing assist. Premium SUV adds front collision warning. Bose audio system upgrades the standard offer.
At top of the class sits the 2020 Buick Enclave Avenir. This is a high-end model with 20-inch wheels and leather upholstery. Besides heating, front seats will offer ventilating. The steering wheel and rear seats are also heated. Dual moonroof improves the overall premium impression. For improved safety, there are a 360-degree camera and parking sensors.
2020 Buick Enclave Release Date
The release date of the 2020 Buick Enclave heavily depends on the new unit. The company will launch the new SUV when the hybrid drivetrain becomes ready for production. It won’t happen so soon. We could see Enclave not before the next spring in 2020. The price of the base trim levels is staying put. That means the entry-level model is going to cost around $40,000. Premium version is above $50,000 and the Avenir costs $55k. Hybrid drivetrain will make it cost more, probably closer to $60,000.
