After many speculations, General Motors unveiled the new squad of full-size SUVs for the next season. Well, all the big rigs are pretty much the same. One of the reasons is that the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will start the new generation. Well, not only these two, but also their twin GMC Yukon, and the premium version Cadillac Escalade.
A couple of spy photos are unveiling these vehicles under the heavy camo. Well, it is still early for official details and releases, but experts are pretty sure the GM is preparing the next generation. The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe will still be a smaller version, while the Suburban is the largest SUV from this company. With its wheelbase of 130 inches, it is capable to compete with rivals with cargo area capacity. Both SUVs arrived in 2015. For Tahoe, this is going to be the fifth generation, while the Suburban is older and it enters 12th gen in 2021.
What Do We Know So Far?
There are only a few photos taken, but it is enough for speculations to start swirling. Of course, the GM is not going to give any info so soon, but we can definitely expect big things in the next couple of months. Spied SUV looks like the Tahoe, and its close sibling Suburban. Since models for 2020 are not taking big changes, the next editions will bring serious updates all around the vehicle. New look, and possibly changes under the hood are two things we expect from 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban.
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Engines
Definitely, both big rigs will continue to use the largest drivetrains General Motors can offer. These are 5.3-l and 6.2-l V8 units. With it, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe can count on 355 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque, if the smaller displacement is selected. A 6.2 version puts up some serious power – 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of twist. Engineers will work on the fuel saving systems, so a few drive modes could be available. The new 10-speed automatic gearbox will be the power router, and both SUVs will offer 2WD and 4WD options. Towing capacity can also expect a boost. Maximum hauling for the vehicle with the 6.2-liter engine will be around 9,000 pounds.
Diesel and Hybrid Powertrains Are Possible
Well, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe will remain the close sibling to the Silverado truck. Both models are using similar petrol engines. So, with the new pickup using a diesel motor, the SUV could take advantage of this source of power. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel Duramax unit is the most powerful in the class. It creates 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. According to predictions, that will be more than Ford’s and Ram’s engines can deliver. Still, we need confirmation for this rumor. But, both Tahoe and Suburban will improve their towing capacity and fuel economy. Still, the main concern is gas emission.
Having that in mind, General Motors could take the other path – the hybrid engine. It seems impossible from this point of view. We still don’t have any vehicles of the size of Suburban or Tahoe using hybrid technology. Well, a mild-hybrid system for the Ram 1500 truck is not what we want to see. But, it is a good start. With such powertrains, 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe will gain gas mileage, but the hauling capability will drop. Also, we have no clue if the electric battery will pair a V8 engine. Ford announced similar changes for the next Expedition, so the GM must respond as soon as possible.
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Will Debut At NAIAS 2020
We can find a lot of rumors saying the new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe will have a premiere next season. However, no one claims where it could be. It is obvious for us – the new format of the largest auto show on Earth. Next year, Detroit will host the world’s biggest debuts in summer. So, the new format will require big premieres. Some companies didn’t appear in this year’s show, and it was a warning. Well, we knew that NAIAS 2020 will change the schedule and now we have potential stars of the show.
New Look, Independent Rear Suspension, and Many More
Well, the new generation means a lot of changes. Of course, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will go through a complete facelift. The new look of the exterior will also cause the overhaul of the interior. Both SUVs are not going to be as premium as Cadillac Escalade, but expect a move a step closer to the luxury class. Furthermore, we will see the new setup for the drive system. Independent rear suspension is probably coming for the next season. That will improve off-road capabilities, with some bolder chassis. More aluminum will cause the weight to drop, which will lead to better gas mileage as well.
