The 2020 Cadillac Escalade will still be the flagship model by the luxury brand. Don’t worry fans, the XT lineup can’t threaten to overtake its place as the most luxurious vehicle. Well, the success of the Cadillac XT5 caused the company to expand the lineup. This year we saw two new models, a smaller XT4 and a larger XT6. There are also rumors about the Caddie completing the lineup from XT1 to XT9. That would mean the last one would be as large as the Escalade. But, it is not going to happen.

The new 2020 Cadillac Escalade will introduce a lot of new things. Some say it could arrive as 2021 MY, but the company already announced it for the next year. With the new Mercedes GLS and BMW X7 coming next season, the US carmaker will have to speed up the development and deliver the Escalade in 2020. Still, it is not easy. There are also rumors about the new engines. Still, the existing V8 will remain the base drivetrain.

2020 Cadillac Escalade Engines

Let’s start with checking out powertrain options for the 2020 Cadillac Escalade. First of all, a 6.2-liter V8 is powerful enough and very reliable, so there is no doubt the GM (parent company) is going to replace it. The mill creates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is part of the Chevy Silverado lineup. If it is good for the flagship truck, then this luxury model can use it as well. A 10-speed transmission is GM’s latest feature. This gearbox pairs 6.2-liter engine for the new Escalade.

Besides that, rumors are speaking about the hybrid drivetrain. Well, it is hard to match the V8 mill with electric motors. It could be possible only for some mild-hybrid systems that won’t affect the outputs too seriously. This kind of hybrid can only boost a fuel economy. But, rumors about the new engine are very loud. Some sources claim the 4.2-liter twin-turbo Blackwing V8 is being tested. With it, the Escalade can count on 550 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Definitely, this might be the drivetrain of some special edition.

Diesel

We could see the relation between the Escalade and the Chevy Silverado truck. Besides the 6.2-l V8 engine, these two will share a similar platform and independent rear suspension. That is not all. We are pretty sure that the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will get the same diesel engine as its sibling from the pickup segment. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel Duramax unit is capable to produce 280 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque. The new drivetrain will improve off-road capabilities and towing capacity. The GM is not confirming this yet. But, sooner or later, the premium full-size SUV will offer a diesel unit under its hood.

2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV

The 2020 Cadillac Escalade is an extended version of the standard SUV. |the only difference between these two versions are in overall length and cargo volume. Equipment, trim levels, engines, and other choices will be the same. We still don’t have precise numbers, but the last ESV variation was 20 inches longer (14-inch difference in wheelbase). Width and height were the same. The extra space, converted to cargo room, means a lot. These are the numbers: for Escalade, cargo space behind the third row is 15 cubic feet, behind second row 51 cubic feet, and max volume 94 cubic feet. The ESV model adds 25 cubic feet to all cargo space capacities.

EXT Truck Comeback Rumors

Escalade was not only an SUV. This nameplate was in use for a luxury pickup truck. The Escalade EXT was discontinued in 2012 and ever since we are listening to rumors about its comeback. However, it is not so likely for 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT to happen. The market shows no mercy for failures, and luxury pickup trucks are not popular anymore. GM is offering special versions of the GMC Sierra 1500 and Canyon, Denali models, but these are not achieving great sales numbers. But, Denali is just an upgrade package for an existing model, while the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT should be an all-new truck.

2020 Cadillac Escalade Release Date Rumors

Cadillac Escalade is not certain yet for the next season. As said, the company announced big changes for the next year. But, the latest speculations are reporting these important upgrades will be available for the 2021 edition. Well, it can be possible that Cadillac wants the Escalade to be a star of the new Detroit Auto Show, happening next summer.

Price

The new 2020 Cadillac Escalade will keep the base price of around $76,000. The company can’t play around with price jump with other full-size luxury SUVs priced under $75,000. However, the Blackwing model will increase the cost of at least $20,000. The diesel engine could have an MSRP even closer to $70,000 than the base model.
