Few more months and we will know everything about the 2020 Cadillac XT6. General Motors is bringing the new SUV, which will be slightly larger than the XT5. Cadillac’s XT family will continue to grow. Not only the larger models are in plans, but also smaller. Well, the Escalade remains the flagship and the biggest SUV with the most advanced technology and the highest price.
The versatility of the XT6 SUV will be the key. However, only one engine choice is confirmed by now. We are sure that the company will bring more drivetrains. Could 2020 Cadillac XT6 be a PHEV? Possibly. The premium model is going to introduce many other advanced features and design solutions.
The cockpit will be spacious, with room for seven persons. Infotainment and safety features are presenting the latest generations and systems. Outside, the XT6 is not bringing anything unusual for the Cadillac family. GM opted for a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which is one of the most reliable units in the company.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Release Date, Price
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 will take the position above the XT5. Since it is the bigger brother, it will cost more. Of course, few new features, update of the interior and exterior design, and the larger engine will make the price go up. Cadillac XT5 costs $42,000 with the same engine. We believe there will be Premium, Sport, and Platinum trim levels. The last one will cost above $70,000. The base model could add around $3,000.
On the official website says the ordering will start in the summer. Alternatives in the mid-size three-row luxury class are BMW X5 and Audi Q7. Of course, the biggest GM’s rival is Ford, whose luxury edition in this segment is Lincoln Aviator. Lexus GX is also the vehicle that will come next year after the big update.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Specs, Hybrid
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is going to offer a single drivetrain. It is a 3.6-liter V6 engine. However, we are sure the company will add another option sooner or later. The mid-size three-row SUV will need an alternative. A V6 is very reliable. It is one of the reasons why XT5 is so popular. So, GM decided to install it to other new vehicles as well, as the safe bet. A nine-speed automatic transmission is smooth. It also improves fuel economy. The combination returns 23 mpg on its smaller sibling. Slightly larger and heavier, the XT6 will probably cut 1 mpg in its fuel economy.
A V6 engine is good for 310 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The new SUV will also add the Sport model with more power. Better handling will cut towing capacity. The XT6 can haul 4,000 pounds. Also, the Active Fuel Management is under a revisit, so better fuel economy numbers are possible already next season. Both consumption and towing capacity need improvements since neither XT5 nor XT6 are among the leaders in these segments.
Fuel economy could get a major boost if engineers attach an electric motor to the existing petrol unit. The hybrid setup would improve mileage, but towing capacity will suffer again. Well, the plug-in variant can also add some more power and improve specs. The company didn’t confirm this rumor yet, but we believe the 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be among the first SUVs to get such configuration.
Diesel, V8
General Motors have some other engines that could be part of the lineup for the 2020 Cadillac XT6. The first one is the turbodiesel we all eagerly expect to see on Chevy Silverado 1500. A 3.0-liter V6 can produce 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. Engineers could downtune this drivetrain since it doesn’t require so much twist.
The other option is a well-known V8. A 5.3-liter drivetrain is all over the GM’s lineup. It creates 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This would be a high-end model if appears under the hood of the new XT6. An engine can also bring the Dynamic Fuel Management instead of AFM, as well as the new 10-speed auto transmission. On the other hand, the new Silverado will also introduce a turbo-four drivetrain with 310 hp. Well, this mill is more likely for the XT5 SUV.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Styling
The new 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be slightly larger than the XT5. On the other hand, it is not as big as the Escalade. Still, the new SUV can accommodate seven passengers. The exterior won’t bring too many surprises. The large grille and LED lights are eye-catching features on the front fascia. 17- or 18-inch wheels are going to be there for the base model. Upper trims will offer 20- or 21-inch rims. Inside, the Cadillac XT6 will bring all the latest infotainment and safety features. Navigation remains optional. Bose audio is already offering advanced functions. However, buyers can always upgrade it with more speakers and surround system. Cadillac User Experience (CUE) will enter the new generation soon. The next editions of XT5 and XT6 SUVs after 2021 will get it.
