General Motors is expanding its luxury SUV class. The success of the XT5 made them build more Cadillac crossovers and SUVs with the same XT nomenclature. Besides the bigger XT6, we also got a smaller version in 2019. The next one, 2020 Cadillac XT4, will add some features to expand the offer and make the crossover SUV more versatile.
Since this is still a fresh model, we won’t see big changes. Initial sale reports are encouraging, so GM will make even smaller luxury crossovers. Larger too. But, Escalade remains the flagship model. The new 2020 Cadillac XT4 is going to be a subcompact model that will compete with BMW X1 and Lexus UX. It is an exclusive version of the Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain. It higher luxury class increases the price, and that is the main disadvantage of the XT4. For the next season, we will see few updates, such as limited trim level, or new features for existing packages.
Pros and Cons
Early impressions about the new crossover are already here. We can expect the 2020 Cadillac XT4 to keep all the advantages. Designers and engineers will work to fix all reported issues. Well, the vehicles are not offering a full-time all-wheel drive, but only part-time. The 2020 year model could bring this feature. Not only the starting price is high, but also additional packages. On the other hand, the cabin of the XT4 is very quiet thanks to the great isolation. Exterior styling is modern, while the interior is full of cool features. There is more equipment available through various packages. Turbo-four engine delivers excellent outputs, both in power and fuel economy segments.
2020 Cadillac XT4 Specs
Under the hood of the 2020 Cadillac XT4 will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. it is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This configuration is good for 2437 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The new XT4 uses Active Fuel Management. This feature, alongside the start-stop system, will boost the fuel economy up to 30 mpg (FWD highway). Combined consumption is 27 mpg for front-wheel drive and 26 mpg with AWD models.
Hybrid
The Cadillac must pay attention to competition that already uses hybrid drivetrains with their subcompact crossovers. The XT4 could get such upgrade for the next season. A hybrid system would boost the fuel economy to at least 30 mpg combined. Well, this configuration is not the best for towing. The good thing is that the base model is capable to haul 3,500 pounds. Even harmed, this output should be among the best in the class.
2020 Cadillac XT4 Features
The entry-level for the 2020 Cadillac XT4 remains the Luxury trim. Upper version is Premium Luxury, while the most expensive version is Sport crossover. LED lamps and 18-inch wheels are standard. You can upgrade these with 20-inch rims at all trims. Electronic stability control is available for the entire lineup. Luxury trim comes with HD rearview camera and rear parking sensors. Keyless entry, cruise control, and 7-speak audio system are there.
Premium Luxury model adds power liftgate and automatic headlights with tunnel detection sensors. Then, buyers of this trim are getting inside the rearview auto-dimming mirror. Front sensors for parking are also added. Premium version also comes with alerts for cross traffic and lane departure. Roof rails are standard, while for the entry-level model it is optional.
Top of the class 2020 Cadillac XT4 Sport comes with unique upgrades. First of many features is a unique grille. Also, this model adds black gloss roof rails. Sport pedals and leather steering wheel you won’t find on other two versions. Driver’s seat is getting a 4-way lumbar support and seatback bolster.
Safety
The new 2020 Cadillac XT4 is bringing the latest safety features. Even the entry-level Luxury model comes with various alert and support packages. Total of eight airbags is there. Automatic parking assist system is an optional upgrade we would recommend to all buyers. You will also get side blind zone alert with two higher trim levels. Another worthy addition is lane keep assist with departure alert.
2020 Cadillac XT4 Price
The entry-level version of the 2020 Cadillac XT4 will cost $36,000. That is the Luxury trim with front-wheel drive. If you want to add an all-wheel drive, you will have to add $2,500. Premium Luxury crossover costs $40,500, as well as the Sport model. Available packages are Cold Weather ($850), Trailering ($300), and Battery Protection ($130). Larger wheels will add $2,000.
Release Date
The new 2020 Cadillac XT4 is not coming any time soon. The subcompact crossover is still fresh and it is testing the market. General Motors will not rush with the next edition until they get first feedbacks to start improving it. Also, the release date of the next XT4 depends on a hybrid engine. Definitely, this powertrain will make a major impact and there is no wonder why GM is not in the rush with the debut of the 2020 Cadillac XT4.
