Although it is not standing as a future vehicle on the official site, the 2020 Audi Q2 is coming as an e-Tron all-electric crossover. This subcompact vehicle is the smallest in the lineup. Well, it will be so until the Q1 enters the market. Well, the Q2 was one of the most questionable models. But, after the German company claimed rights in 2016 to use this name, we knew it is coming. Well, we didn’t know the form, until now. With the new arrival, Audi’s lineup is almost complete. Soon, we will have all crossovers and SUVs starting from Q1 going to Q9.
German carmaker now has the new largest and the smallest crossover SUV. On the other side from the 2020 Audi Q2 is the Q8. What’s more, the new subcompact vehicle will also get the version with extended wheelbase. The premiere of the upcoming model will happen probably in China. This market is crazy about electric and hybrid vehicles. However, the crossover is probably going to appear worldwide. In the USA and Europe for sure.
Engines
Under the hood of the 2020 Audi Q2 lays a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It is capable to produce 190 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission, drivetrain sends power to the famous Quattro all-wheel drive system. However, buyers will be able to purchase the front-wheel drive configuration for a 2.0-liter engine.
Optionally, there will be a 1.4 TFSI setup with a six-speed manual transmission. However, this powertrain is not going to be available worldwide. It is capable to produce 150 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. The final version that is definitely not coming to the US and many other countries is a 1.0-liter mill. It can deliver 115 hp thanks to a turbocharger. However, efficiency is the major problem for this drivetrain.
2020 Audi Q2 e-Tron
The latest reports and spy photos are suggesting there will be the new version of the compact crossover. The 2020 Audi Q2 e-Tron is an all-electric model that will be able to go up to 500 km / 300 miles in a single charge. Sadly, that is all we know about the e-Tron. From spy shots, we can assume the EV will be based on the larger Q2 L version. The design will be very similar to the rest of the lineup. Well, all Audis are using the same design language. Some sources inform that the company will launch the Q2 e-Tron with front-wheel drive only to save battery. But, fans refuse to accept this speculation. Audi without Quattro system is not the same.
Diesel Engines and Specs
We won’t see Audi using a diesel engine in the USA any time soon. Well, after the emission scandal they will focus on the greener versions. But, outside the major market in the world, the 2020 Audi Q2 Diesel is even more popular than the petrol version. A TDI setup uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 115 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of twist. The other solution is 2.0-l TDI. In this case, there are two different configurations with either 150/190 hp and 250/300 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed transmission and Quattro AWD are coming along. Diesel Q2 needs 7 seconds to accelerate 0-60 mph, 0.2 seconds more than with a petrol unit.
2020 Audi SQ2 – Faster and More Powerful
If you want to get the best from its Q2, then consider purchasing the special SQ2 model. This version of the crossover will deliver more power from the same drivetrain. The 2020 Audi SQ2 will squeeze 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque out of it. The transmission remains the same, and it sends power to all wheels, as you can guess.
When you upgrade the 2020 Audi Q2 to the SQ2, better performance is not all you get. Yet, extra hp rating will help you accelerate 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds and stop the gauge at 155 mph. To do that, SQ2 is more aerodynamic thanks to the special design. A unique grille, hood, and interior will make everything sportier. Of course, there is a stumbling block – a significantly higher cost of purchase and maintenance.
2020 Audi Q2 Price
The base model of the 2020 Audi Q2 will cost over $35,000 with the petrol engine. The cheapest version European buyers can get is the one with a 1.0-liter engine. It costs only 25,000 € ($29,000). Larger diesel engine raises the price to around $45,000. The all-electric version will cost the most, probably over $55,000 for the base variant. It will face the competition in the new BMW iX3 and Jaguar i-Pace. Honda also debuted with e-prototype electric crossover and Infiniti also prepares an all-electric model. Still, the versatility of the Q2 is its main strength. It will offer you petrol, diesel, and electric model. There is also a performance version SQ2. Even more power we could get if Audi launches the RS Q2 model.
