new 2020 GMC Acadia

The new 2020 GMC Acadia will update the lineup with a new drivetrain and trim levels. Fans of turbo engines will be happy to hear this mid-size crossover SUV is getting such unit. A 2.0-liter displacement is taking a position under the hood. Besides that, a mid-cycle refresh brings new colors and safety features. But, what is more important, the 2020 Acadia AT4 will be an off-road oriented model that is ready for every challenge. Changes on the SUV are worth waiting.

The new 2020 GMC Acadia is not out yet, although the SUV had a premiere. Well, the vehicle is keeping the same size and overall shape as its predecessor. If you are looking for a larger model from the lineup, there is Yukon, and the smaller one is Terrain. The engine room offers four- and six-cylinder drivetrains. Finally, we can’t wait to see updates on the new Denali version. Top of the line trim is always bringing surprises.

2020 GMC Acadia Powertrains

The base 2020 GMC Acadia will use a 2.5-liter four-pot engine as the standard drivetrain. This mill is capable to produce 195 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The towing capacity of this engine is not worthy of mention. Any other SUV will offer better hauling capabilities. On the other hand, the fuel economy is average, so the GMC Acadia is not gaining an advantage in this segment. Good thing is that we can pick between front- and all-wheel drive.

The other option delivers more of everything. A 3.6-liter V6 is good for 310 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. It is one of the options for the Chevy Colorado truck. For the mid-size SUV, the engine is tuned to return 21 mpg. Towing capacity of this configuration is 4,000 pounds. It is still weak compared to main rivals.

Diesel and Hybrid

Definitely, General Motors must improve the lineup if they want to keep the pace with the competition. The 2020 GMC Acadia will have to get another option for the engine room. Options are either diesel or hybrid model. The first one could be a 2.8-liter Duramax, which is already a powertrain of the above-mentioned Colorado truck. With it, the SUV would get a torque, towing capacity, and fuel economy boost. On the other hand, hybrids are the future of the automotive industry. But, the GM is not showing big enthusiasm about the development of this class.

New Engine

Before we see either of these, the company refreshed the 2020 GMC Acadia with a new 2.0-liter turbo engine. This four-banger steps up with 230 hp, 260 lb-ft of twist, and improved fuel economy. Chevy Traverse is keeping it under the hood. However, Acadia is a smaller and lighter SUV, so we can’t compare the capabilities of these two models. Still, a six-speed gearbox remains the main power router. For Chevrolet’s edition, the turbo engine is sending power to all wheels, and returns 23 mpg combined. Fewer pounds means more miles per gallon for 2020 Acadia.

2020 GMC Acadia AT4 and Denali Models

The most-exciting trim levels of the new 2020 GMC Acadia are Denali and AT4. We can’t say which is better since it depends on the buyer’s needs. If you want to go off the road with Acadia SUV, then AT4 offers special upgrades and tuning to make the adventure comfortable. On the other hand, it still can’t match the premium offer of the Acadia Denali model. Leather seats, latest infotainment features, unique colors and wheels are part of this package. Well, as you can expect, the price of these two models lead the way in the lineup.

Changes

Compared to the previous edition, the new 2020 GMC Acadia will have a new front fascia. Definitely, the highlight is C-shaped headlights (check out Sierra trucks for similarities). Also, the grille and bumper design will draw the attention of all fans. Refreshed SUV adds new 17-inch wheels for the base configuration, while upper trims can bring larger rims (up to 20 inches). Rectangular exhaust tips lay under the rear bumper instead of oval pipes. Inside, the new layout offers more space. Buyers will choose the trim and level of equipment coming with it. Designers created more space in the third row, but the second one is tighter than before. Somewhere you win, somewhere you lose.

The same amount must be added for every next trim level – SL2, SLT1, and SLT2. The 2020 Acadia Denali will be near $50,000 but not above. The price of the all-new AT4 SUV is not available yet.
