Since the Super Duty truck class hit the new generation, the rumors about the 2021 Ford Excursion are warming up. This used to be the largest model in the SUV segment based on the F-250 HD pickup. Now, we have For Expedition Max, which is approximately coming with the same length, but the capabilities are making the Excursion more suitable for serious hauling.
The highlights of the SUV are its huge engines. The vehicle used a pair of large petrol units called Triton (5.4 and 6.8 displacements). Plus, there was a diesel unit that provided the maximum torque, especially a 7.3-liter mill. Now, similar options are in the mix, especially since Ford offers a couple of diesel solutions and the new gasoline drivetrain.
Is it possible to see the huge SUV again? Is there a place for the 2021 Ford Excursion in the market? The answer is definitely – yes. The new model will sit above the Expedition. The SUV segment is growing. The new largest unit in the world is possible. Ford is not the only carmaker that extends lineup since Jeep is adding a full-size Grand Wagoneer, while BMW already launched X7.

Pros and Cons
The lack of competition is something that the 2021 Ford Excursion will see as its main advantage. Also, there are high outputs and capabilities. However, the biggest mystery is the interest in such a model. Current SUVs are versatile and reliable, but the Excursion would increase that to another level. On the other hand, bad things are high price and thirsty engines. But, these things are in correlation – the more power, the higher consumption, and vice versa.
2021 Ford Excursion Dimensions
The last generation of the Excursion was 226 inches long. Currently, the closest length to this one if Chevy Suburban with 224 in. We will see if the new generation of GM’s vehicles can be longer. On the other hand, the Expedition Max is 222 inches long. The new 2021 Ford Excursion could reach even 230 inches. It will be again based on the F-250 Super Duty truck, which hit the new generation this year.
2021 Ford Excursion Specs
Like the last time, the SUV will get a huge displacement. The Blue Oval company launched the new unit for the Super Duty truck segment. It is a 7.3-liter V8 powerplant, which will be the main energy source for the 2021 Ford Excursion. It adds 45 hp compared to its predecessor, for 430 ponies total. We will see how it affects the towing capacity, but the SUV could be the most capable vehicle in the class. Currently, that is its close sibling, Expedition, with 9,300 pounds from a twin-turbo V6 engine.

Diesel Engine Possibilities
The 2021 Excursion will be based on the heavy-duty truck. This model is using a 6.7-liter turbodiesel unit with 450 hp and 930 lb-ft of torque. Still, most experts think this is too much for the SUV and no one would go after such outputs. If anyone needs extreme towing capabilities, buyers will go after a truck.
A more likely option for the Excursion will be a 3.0-liter V6, also turbocharged. For the smaller F-150 truck, it is capable to create 250 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. With this turbodiesel, the towing capacity will get another boost and we could see the SUV returning 12,000 pounds. Also, the smaller displacement is going to return better mileage, although the heavy-duty model is not going to be too efficient here.
Styling and Equipment
The new 2021 Ford Excursion will come with a fresh look. However, we won’t see too many updates compared to vehicles it copies – Expedition SUV and F-250 truck. The front fascia could be borrowed from the pickup lineup, while the interior layout is coming from the full-size model. The Excursion is going to offer eight seating spots and plenty of space inside the cabin. Its relative offers 120 cubic feet of cargo space, but the new model will improve this too. The level of equipment depends on trim levels. The company is not going to pack it with too many features to keep the starting price low. On the other hand, if we see Limited or Platinum versions, the cost will reach premium levels. Other possible versions we would like to see are King Ranch of the off-road FX4.

2021 Ford Excursion Release Date
We will find out more about the 2021 Ford Excursion in the next few months. If the company is serious about the return of the largest SUV ever, they will speed up the development before its rivals start doing the same. So, the first official updates could happen in the next six months, while the sales are not going to start before 2021. The base price will be higher than for the Expedition, which costs $53,000.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!! 1,930 torque is not enough! lol
